Popeyes Opening & Closing Hours in Canada

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen has been serving Canada since 1984, when its first location opened in Toronto making Canada the brand’s first market outside the United States. What began as a handful of Ontario restaurants has grown into a national presence, with locations now spread from British Columbia through the Prairies to the Maritimes.

Because nearly every Canadian Popeyes is operated by an independent franchisee, there is no single set of national hours. Opening and closing times are set store by store, and the differences are larger than most people expect.

To give you a realistic picture rather than a guess, we checked the published hours for 16 Popeyes locations across Toronto, Scarborough, Etobicoke, North York, Brampton and Calgary in August 2026. Here is what that sample showed:

  • Most locations open between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. The single most common opening time was 11:00 AM, followed closely by 10:30 AM. One North York store opens as early as 8:00 AM.
  • Closing times vary enormously. In the Greater Toronto Area, closing between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM is normal rather than exceptional. In Calgary, most locations close between 10:30 PM and 1:00 AM.
  • Two of the sixteen locations operate 24 hours a day.
  • Mall and office-district locations close much earlier — one downtown Calgary store closes at 5:00 PM and does not open at all on weekends.

The clearest pattern in this sample is regional. Every Calgary location we checked closed by 1:00 AM at the latest on a weeknight, while GTA locations routinely ran until 3:00 or 4:00 AM. If you are used to Popeyes hours in one city, do not assume they carry over to another.

Dine-In vs Drive-Thru and Late-Night Service

This is where published hours can be misleading. The time listed for a restaurant is usually the time the last order is taken — but the dining room often closes before that.

Customer reports from the locations we looked at describe two common patterns:

The dining room closes first. At one Calgary location that lists an 11:00 PM closing time, a customer arriving at 10:40 PM was served but not permitted to sit inside. Arriving in the final twenty to thirty minutes of service usually means takeout or drive-thru only.

Late-night service moves to a side door or drive-thru. At a North York location listing a 4:00 AM close, a customer described dine-in service being shut down entirely, with orders taken by phone and collected from a side entrance. This is common practice at stores that run deep into the night with a skeleton crew.

Late-Night and 24-Hour Locations

Late-night Popeyes service in Canada is concentrated heavily in the Greater Toronto Area.

Open 24 hours (from our sample):

  • Dundas St W, Etobicoke
  • Military Trail, Scarborough

Open until 4:00 AM or later:

  • Main St N, Brampton — 6:00 AM
  • Eglinton Ave E & Warden, Scarborough — 4:00 AM
  • Don Mills Rd, North York — 4:00 AM
  • Queen St E, Brampton — 4:00 AM
  • Yonge St, Toronto — 4:30 AM Thursday to Saturday
  • 17 Ave SW, Calgary — 4:00 AM Friday and Saturday

Open past midnight:

  • Financial Dr, Brampton — 3:00 AM
  • Queen St E (Airport Rd), Brampton — 2:00 to 3:00 AM
  • St. Clair Ave W, Toronto — 12:00 AM to 2:00 AM
  • Eversyde Ave SW, Calgary — 12:00 AM
  • 17 Ave SW, Calgary — 1:00 AM Sunday to Thursday

One caveat worth knowing: several late-night customers reported that the full menu is not always available in the small hours. Limited-time items and less popular pieces can run out, and some stores stop frying certain products near the end of the night.

Popeyes Holiday Hours 2026–27

Holiday schedules are set by individual franchisees and vary by province. Many Canadian quick-service restaurants close entirely on Christmas Day and reduce hours on other statutory holidays, but Popeyes does not publish a national holiday schedule.

Why Hours Vary So Much Between Locations

Almost every Popeyes in Canada is run by an independent franchisee, and each operator sets their own trading hours based on what their location can support. That single fact explains most of the variation.

Location type is the biggest driver. A mall food-court unit is bound by the shopping centre’s hours and typically closes by 9:00 PM. An office-district store serves the lunch crowd and may close mid-afternoon and shut entirely on weekends. A standalone restaurant on a busy suburban road has no such constraints and can trade until dawn.

Local demand matters just as much. Neighbourhoods with heavy late-night foot traffic, nearby nightlife, or large shift-working populations support 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM closings. Quieter residential areas do not.

Staffing determines whether extended hours are practical at all, and stores frequently adjust their closing times seasonally or when crews change.

Provincial regulation plays a smaller but real role, particularly around statutory holidays, where rules on holiday trading differ between provinces.

How to Check Your Local Store’s Hours

Hours change without notice, so verify before travelling — especially late at night or on a holiday.

Google Maps is the most current source. It shows live status and flags temporary changes that official listings often miss.

The Popeyes app confirms whether the kitchen is actually accepting orders, which is a more reliable signal than posted hours.

Calling the restaurant is the only way to confirm drive-thru timing, dining-room closing, or holiday status.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most Canadian locations open between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM, with 11:00 AM being the most common opening time in the locations we checked. A small number open earlier one North York store opens at 8:00 AM and two locations in our sample operate 24 hours a day. Opening times are set by each franchisee, so check your local store.

Closing times vary more than opening times. In the Greater Toronto Area, closing between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM is common, and one Brampton location trades until 6:00 AM. In Calgary, most locations close between 10:30 PM and 1:00 AM. Mall and office-district stores close much earlier, sometimes as early as 5:00 PM.

Most Canadian quick-service restaurants close on Christmas Day, and Popeyes locations generally follow that pattern. However, this is decided by each franchisee rather than nationally, so a small number of locations may open with reduced hours. Confirm with your local restaurant before travelling.

Boxing Day is a normal trading day for most restaurants in Canada, and Popeyes locations are typically open, though often with reduced hours. Stores inside shopping centres will follow the mall’s Boxing Day schedule, which can mean either extended or shortened hours depending on the centre.

In practice, yes. The dining room usually closes before the posted closing time while the drive-thru and takeout counter continue serving. At some late-night locations, dine-in service stops entirely and orders are handled through the drive-thru or a side entrance. Popeyes does not publish separate drive-thru hours, so call the store if the timing is tight.

Most locations open on Canada Day, though frequently with reduced hours. Because Canada Day is a federal statutory holiday, hours can differ from a normal weekday even at stores that stay open, so confirm with your restaurant if you are planning around it.
